Jurgen Dost abstract oil painting late 1960’s


A striking image oil on canvas by the now little known Jurgen Dost ( 1939-2020 ) sold with a small book of Ex Libris bookplate designs by him which was published in Denmark in 1966. We also have a group of 3 signed linocuts by the same artist which we bought together with this painting.


Jurgen Dost was a German artist who seemed to have been well known in Scandinavia in the late 1960’s. There are apparently a number of his works of this date in the Moderna Museet collection in Stockholm. He was obviously known well at that time for his Ex Libris designs which is a rather niche field of collecting.


Nothing seems to be known about him after the early 1970’s apart from the fact that he died in 2020.


No apparent signature, but by the artist.
