Late 60’s Haslev coffee table with Nils Thorsson tiles


The table is from the large and very successful design by Severin Hansen Jnr for the large quality Danish maker Haslev. The lovely simple mitre joints to the legs is an iconic idea. You’ll find coffee tables, nests, lamp tables and also desks and side tables with fitted drawers from this range in teak, rosewood, mahogany and sometimes light oak. In the late 1960’s Haslev combined with Royal Copenhagen to add tiles to the tops of coffee and lamp tables. The tiles were designed by Royal Copenhagen’s chief designer Nils Thorsson using patterns that are normally found on vases and dishes which were also highly successful at the time.


Tiles add practicality as no need to worry about hot cups and spillages as well as adding pattern and interest to a large surface.


This lovely table is in mahogany which has been cleaned and oiled and has the usual labels that you’d expect from both makers.


Although heights of Haslev tables are often standard the coffee and side tables were made in numerous different sizes !


Condition
The mahogany cleaned and oiled with no obvious marks or damage. The tiles with no obvious chips or cracks. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely.
