Vicke Lindstrand started by designing for Orrefors in the 1930’s before going to Upsala Ekeby as their chief designer, then onto Kosta. He was a very prolific successful designer for 3 decades moving from Art Deco into Postwar Modern with no difficulty. These pieces are from his Platina range which was introduced in 1940. Sweden stayed out of the 2nd World War so production for the home market continued without slowing down.
Platina with it’s stylish understated frosted finish was always a luxury range. You’ll see various variations in the design of the decanters. Here we have an identical pair with a set of 10 cocktail glasses which virtually all still have their original Orrefors labels on them as does 1 decanter. The decanter without the label is engraved Orrefors to the underside, the labelled one is engraved Orrefors LU2063/31 which is odd as it should be LA2276 according to the 1940 Orrefors catalogue where it’s shown with the matching glasses.
The decanters are each around 3kgs in weight
Condition
One glass with a small chip to the rim
Notes
We also have a wine cooler/vase , a water jug and a different model of decanter which we bought separately which are shown in 1 of the photos and are being listed separately .
