Designed by Illum Wikkelso who was probably Denmark’s most successful Mid-Century upholstery designer, and made by the quality maker C.F.Christensen of Silkeborg. The consensus seems to be that this design dates to the 1960’s. Like his famous Capella series for Eillersen it’s designed to come to pieces and with the right components you can create a small sofa. It came in various woods including rosewood and mahogany as well as this lovely light oak and he also designed a small square coffee table to match. A rosewood Plexus coffee table from a pair that we have is shown in a couple of the photos.
A nice neat small armchair with a lightness that’s emphasised by the lovely caned panelled back and sides. A very recognisable design that’s unlike any other chair of the time.
73.5cms wide, seat height about 38cms, back height 74cms, depth around 67cms
Condition The oak frames are in lovely vintage condition. The canework is original with no splits or damage. The webbing to the underside is original and is in great condition so didn’t need replacing.
Our upholsterer has made new foam cushions which have been upholstered in a lovely teal green wool fabric. The original cushions were needing to be replaced and these exact copies will meet current UK Fire Regulations for upholstered furniture.
