Scarce Conran Danish style teak bar box 1964


This is only the second time we’ve had one of these lovely bar boxes. The previous one was about 8 years ago and at the time we thought it was possibly Danish as it was very similar to one by Randers Mobelfabrik. Since then we’ve found it illustrated in a 1964 book and in an article from the same year in a trade paper. The only difference with the Randers ones is that they’re slightly smaller, have a lock and instead of the white melamine tray they have teak ones. It would be interesting to know which one was designed first, but it seems the Conran ones are rarer as they rarely turn up for sale and we haven’t another apart from the one we sold in 2017 ! The Randers ones are usually described as rug boxes, but this model was definitely marketed as a bar box.


This is Conran before Habitat and is lovely quality with nice wheels for easy movement.


Condition
Cleaned and oiled with no obvious marks or damage. As with all vintage pieces you must expect to see some small signs of wear if you look very closely.
