Most Troeds pieces from the 1960’s were designed by Nils Jonsson and the sideboards are usually given a model name, but they also occasionally used Yngve Ekstrom who is best known known for his iconic Lamino chairs.
This model although fully stamped never seems to have a model name in the branded stamp to the birch interior. It’s only second time we’ve had this lovely sideboard in over 15 years of trading in Mid-Century furniture.
Small sideboards that are under 150cms were not sold in large numbers as most people were looking for longer models, and this design seems to have only come in this size.
The drawer handles are really unusual and are really nice. The sliding door sits neatly into the handles when the door is fully open, and it’s worth opening just to see the result !
The legs unscrew if needed so if you have a small tight staircase it’s much easier to move it.
Condition
It’s been cleaned and oiled. There is one small mark that we couldn’t remove from the top and this is shown in 1 of the photos. As with all vintage furniture you do have to expect some signs of wear if you look very closely.
Notes
We’ve found a couple of sellers in Europe saying the design dates to 1956-58, but we think this is highly unlikely as this is far too radical a design for the 1950’s and particularly for a Swedish manufacturer. We would date it to the mid 1960’s.
Remains of Bra Brohag label which also dates it to the mid to late 1960’s.
