Set of 4 Hans Wegner CH39 teak chairs

This stylish model is one that rarely comes up for sale. It’s a slightly later variant of the CH37 chair which is still made today by Carl Hansen, but only in light oak. Hans Wegner designed many successful pieces Carl Hansen in the 1950’s and 60’s. Teak was mainly used in the 1950’s and 1960’s but is much harder and more expensive to use today, so now it’s woods like oak and cherry which can be grown more quickly in plantations that are mostly used for dining chairs. Teak is much warmer and we think ages better.

Branded marks as you’d expect to the underside of the seats.

You’ll find plenty of information online about Hans Wegner and Carl Hansen, so we’ll let these chairs speak for themselves in the photos we’ve taken.

The original wool upholstery had already been replaced once and the later replacement was looking a bit grubby, so we’ve had them redone in a lovely green leather.

Condition
The teak has been cleaned and oiled and is looking great. The seats have been newly upholstered in a green leather. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely.

59cms at widest, seat height 45cms, back height 78cms

Notes
New Wegner CH37 chairs in light oak currently cost around £1000 a chair. We think our vintage set in teak are nicer and better value.
