https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/pure-imaginationSet of 4 teak Troja chairs designed by Kai Kristiansen in 1959
These lovely chairs like all good design still look fresh and modern even though designed over 65 years ago. They often turn up singly as desk chairs, but we have had one other set of 4 about 10 years ago. This set came on it’s own but the previous ones came with a Hvidt and Molgaard table which is identical to this one we currently have here.
Kai Kristiansen was one of the most prolific and successful Danish Mid-Century chair designers of his generation with designs for a number of makers. Magnus Olsen was a well known quality maker in the 1960’s .
The upholstery is vintage, but probably replaced in the 1970’s or 80’s as usually they’re in a black faux leather which was popular in the 1960’s. It can easily be re-done in the fabric of your choice or in leather. Our in-house upholsterer can quote for fabric and labour costs if required.
Condition
The solid teak frames have been fully cleaned and oiled. The upholstery is in good vintage condition as per description and photos. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look very closely.
Notes
Apparently this model was retailed in the early 1960’s by Ikea as were Capella chairs by Eillersen of Denmark. Ikea also retailed their own designs by top designers like Erik Wortz in the early 1960’s. It was only when made Swedish makers boycotted Ikea under pressure from retailers there that they decided to take production to Poland which proved the making of what was then a medium sized local retailer.
