We bought 10 from the family of the original owners who bought them all new in the 1960’s. We also bought 2 Danish teak dining tables with them, and think they must have bought some in the early 1960’s and some later in the decade when they needed more. Here we have a set of 8, but can sell all 10 at a pro rata price if required. The other 2 can be cleaned, oiled and re-done with new paper-cord to match.
This Mid-Century design classic dates to about 1955 so is now 70 years old yet still looks modern today which is the sign of a great design. Designed by Niels Moller for his family firm of J.L.Moller who produced them for many years.
All are stamped and as the original paper-cord was worn on some we’ve had them all redone to match the original. The paper-cord should with care last 40 years, but we still see some that are in great condition after 60 years of careful use.
Most people back in the 1960’s could only afford 4 or 6 chairs, so it’s hard to find an original set of 8 . By the late 1970’s people were more likely to buy sets of 6 or 8 chairs, but unfortunately by then quality of manufacture wasn’t as good and nor were the designs as stylish and elegant as they were in the 1950’s and 1960’s !
Seats 50cms at widest point at front, seat height 46cms, back height 76cms
Condition
The solid teak frames cleaned and oiled with no obvious damage. The seats all newly done as per originally with new paper-cord by our in-house team. As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of damage if you look very closely.
Notes
J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik is still making beautiful chairs today, but not in teak and we couldn’t see this model at Twenty Twenty One in London where their range is available to buy. The current ranges are available only in walnut, oak or beech with prices around twice the price of the vintage ones we have in teak.
