It’s hard to find Mid-Century sideboards under 150cms , and even harder to find one under 130cms . This lovely design was also made in a larger more normal size , but as with all Norwegian furniture they don’t turn up very often in the UK . One seller online has described it as being a Frederik Kaiser design , but the consensus seems to be it’s the lesser known Alf Aarseth who designed a number of sideboards for Gustav Bahus .
Norway produced some very talented Mid-Century furniture designers and had various good quality makers , but like British ones they’ve been overshadowed by their Danish neighbours which is a shame as we’ve had some fantastic Norwegian pieces over the years .
We loved the cut out handles and the shaping to the feet which is a feature that isn’t that noticeable until you look closely . It would have been more expensive to produce than standard turned ones , but that’s the joy of buying really good Mid-Century pieces as the best makers didn’t cut any corners when making their pieces .
It will date to the early 1960’s .
Condition
It’s been fully cleaned and oiled with no obvious marks or scratches . As with all vintage furniture you must expect to see some minor signs of wear if you look closely .
