Smart pair of Howard Keith cocktail chairs re-upholstered in turquoise velvet


Howard Keith was a highly successful maker of upholstered furniture in the 1950s and 1960s. His 1950s chairs were mainly in the fashionable Italian style. The slightly exaggerated wings and buttoning are typical of Howard Keith pieces from the 2nd half of the 1950s. Legs on Howard Keith chairs were usually either a light wood or as in this case ebonised, and the shaping varied slightly from model to model. Some pieces were stamped HK others just had removeable labels.


The Howard Keith firm carried on for many years, eventually specialising in high-end commercial contract work. Their pieces were never cheap, but were usually stylish and extremely well mad .
