Stylish pair of 1950’s oak armchairs


Very comfortable pair of chairs with a good rake to the back which is why they’re deeper than most. We think they’re French, but we couldn’t find the design online with a definite attribution. They’re definitely not Scandinavian or British and don’t look Italian as they’re too angular. There are also many stylish designs at this time from what is now Czechia, but most are in cheaper and easier to work beech rather than oak. Really nicely made and a very individual design with good springing to the backs and bases.


We date them to the mid 1950’s.


Just over 62cms wide, 86cms at deepest, back height 90cms, seat height 42cm.


Condition
The frames have been completely cleaned and oiled and are looking really good. The original springing to backs and seats is in excellent vintage condition. They came without any cushions, so our in-house upholsterer has made new foam cushions to current UK regulations upholstered in a lovely Abraham Moon wool fabric which we think works very well with the oak and the styling.
