A charming and well executed depiction of a male Chaffinch perched on his nest with two eggs visible, the nest appears to be situated in an oak tree.
Inscribed ‘Cock Chaffinch and Nest’ and signed and dated to the lower right ‘Abe Tully, 1846’.
Framed and glazed in a simple gilt frame with framing label verso for ‘James Wates, Carver and Gilder, 129A Powis Street, Woolwich.’
The painting is in excellent vintage condition, the colours are still vibrant and don’t appear to be faded. There is no significant damage and only minor wear commensurate with age.
Approximate overall measurements: 17cm x 16cm x 2cm.
