Item Description
Antique symbolist silhouette print from 'Per Aspera Ad Astra' by Karl Wilhelm Diffenbach, early 20th century framed illustration.
Depicting a scene of a Pan-like figure marching forward with a ram in front who has pushed a monkey off of a rocky outcrop.
From the series 'Per Aspera Ad Astra' (Through Hardship to the Stars) by the German Symbolist master Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach.
The print was originally part of a 68-meter-long frieze which is now on display in his home town at the City Museum Hadamar and was later converted into a book of 34 separate illustrations and prints.
Framed and glazed in a simple ebonized frame.
The print itself is in good vintage condition with only minimal wear commensurate with age. The frame is worn around the edges, but this adds to its charm.
Overall measurements: 85cm x 46cm x 2cm.
