Item Description
Mid Century Surrealist Landscape ‘Mesto’ 1951 by Vaclav Tikal (1906-1965).
Mesto translates as ‘The City’ which makes sense. A kind of abstract, angular but soft surreal-cubist melange that definitely works.
Tikal was a well known surrealist artist and ceramicist, mainly working in Prague. It could be a preparatory sketch for a larger painting but he did do a lot of small scale drawings that were works in their own right.
Signed and dated lower right.
Provenance: Galerie Moderna, Prague.
In excellent vintage condition.
Overall measurements: 19.5cm x 9.5cm.
