Item Details

Shirogane no obi — 白銀の帯, the silver sash. A bridal knot bag composed from the face of a single fukuro obi (袋帯), made by Renaras, an Amsterdam atelier working Japanese ceremonial silk.

The ground is silver white, worked with horizontal bands of raised metallic thread — sculptural ridges that catch the light in sequence. Through the weave run pale rose and powder blue: hexagonal lattice, floral scroll, passages of figured brocade held in half-tones. The palette sits inside ivory and white rather than against it.

Silk of this grade was woven in Japan for formal dress, late Showa to early Heisei. Made into a bridal bag, it returns to ceremony — something old in the silk, something new in the making, something blue woven through it.

The bag hangs from the wrist, the longer handle passed through the shorter, both hands left free. It holds the little a wedding day requires. It does not retire with the day. The bag continues — dinner, theatre, travel.

Knotted self-closure. Silk lining. No clasp, no hardware, no zip — no metal touches the silk, and nothing catches on lace or tulle.

Each piece is accompanied by its passport from the atelier — a small handmade record of the silk's first life and its transformation, signed and dated in Amsterdam.
