Item Details

A pair of Ryukyu glasses, crackled awa glass, the Inamine kiln (宙吹ガラス工房 虹), Yomitan, Okinawa. The kiln was founded by Inamine Seikichi, designated a Contemporary Master Craftsman, and is continued by his son; the crackled bubble-glass technique originates with this workshop and is practised nowhere else. Each glass: strata of ochre craquelure, silvered bubble-work and cobalt, with an olive-green inclusion. 10 cm high, 6 cm diameter (3.9 × 2.4 in). Hand-blown; hand wash only. The pairing cannot be repeated.
