Item Details

A very tall pair of Antique Chinese Temple Doors in Elm with carved decorative central panels. The upper sections latticed, the lower planked. Wrought Iron ring handles, bolt and keep. The reverse with a ring handle to one door only. 252cm x 110cm (combined width) x 6cm (99 x 43.5 x 2.5 inches) Circa 1890

An extremely charming and decorative pair of doors, the wood and the iron work both provide a  huge wealth of patina and character. At over 2 inches thick and two and a half metres tall, they also speak of quality and versatility. Whether they end up fitted over an alcove to make a beautiful cupboard, incorporated into an internal partition wall, forming an incredible entrance to a summer house or simply used as decorative panels they bring instant warmth and an impressive grandeur.

Condition is as per images. Lots of wear to the surface, including some deep scratches and colour variations to the fronts. Completely solid and functional with no structural losses. There is evidence of old worm damage to a couple of timbers at the back though no sign this is still active. The doors have never been hinged, though one door has an unusual (modern) fitting at the top that would have allowed the door to pivot from the centre.
