Antique pair of Victorian Corinthian column silver plate candlestick table lamps by William Hutton & Sons, 1900`s ca, English.


This pair of antique lamps have been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. They are newly rewired, earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to use. Each has the following new components: lamp holder with a cream card cover, silver silk cable, white cord switch, white plug (UK Plug up to 250V) & quality clip on silk lampshade. Lightbulbs included. These lamps can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use these lights in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity.


Presented here is a fine quality pair of silver plated antique English candlesticks dating to around 1890-1910 (late Victorian/early Edwardian era), converted into lamps.


They are both stamped at the bottom of the base with the maker`s mark: The initials "WH & S" inside separate oval cartouches are the registered trademark for William Hutton & Sons. To the right of the initials, their famous crossed arrows mark (with four arrows crossing horizontally and vertically). The sequence 5836 is a catalog design or pattern tracking number assigned during production. For William Hutton & Sons, a single stamped letter "K" aligns directly with production schedules from their peak output era surrounding the turn of the Century.


The simple elegant classic form & delicate proportions make these lamps well proportioned for a bedside, sideboard, side table or mantelpiece. These pieces combine Victorian craftsmanship with modern usability, making them ideal as statement lighting for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
They would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Art Deco, Traditional, Country, Hollywood Regency, or Contemporary.


This pair of Neoclassical table lamps is designed in the style of traditional Corinthian columns and beautifully crafted from polished silver plate. The casting is superb. The structure begins with a heavily tiered, square beaded stepped base that provides an architectural and stable foundation, as both bases are weighted. Rising from this plinth is a classically fluted, vertical column shaft that draws the eye upward to an intricately carved Corinthian capital adorned with detailed acanthus leaves. The drip pan has a square shaped design with concave (curved inward) beaded sides and cut-corner notches, creating an elegant, flared profile that mimics the architectural capital of a classical column. Emerging from the capital there is a new lamp holder covered by a new cream card candle tube.


Both lamps are finished with quality new clip-on cream silk candle lampshades. The shade is tapered and has wide pleat detailing, complete with a crepe trim top & bottom. It is lined in the same colour which enhances the glow of light. These lampshades are included in the price.


Each lamp carries 1 standard small screw light bulb (E14) up to 40 Watts. At present fitted & photographed with new LED 4.5 Watt dimmable Candle Clear shaped lightbulbs (equivalent of 40 Watts), which are included in the price.


Fitted with a twisted silver tone silk covered cord, these lamps retain a period appropriate aesthetic while ensuring safe, modern electrification.

These antique lamps are in very good condition for their age. The original antique patina has been preserved, adding character & depth. The metal frames are sound with no missing or broken parts, the silver finish in good condition, and only tiny superficial marks and minor rubbing to the surfaces in line with age & wear. The 2 lampshades are new and in very good condition.

The lampshade alone is: Height: 11.5 cm, Diameter at the bottom: 13 cm, Diameter at the top: 8 cm.


Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport the bases & lampshades would be wrapped separately in bubble wrap, foam and an outer layer of card. Together these parts would easily fit into a box with loose fill packing nuts, safe for posting with a courier. We ship with reliable couriers (signed for, tracked & insured).

WILLIAM HUTTON & SONS SILVERSMITH ENGLAND HISTORY


Founded in Birmingham in 1800 by William Hutton, this highly respected British manufacturing silversmith company relocated its primary operations to Sheffield in 1832. The firm achieved monumental early success after licensing the revolutionary electroplating process directly from Elkington & Co.
As Hutton’s sons stepped into management, the business officially changed its name to William Hutton & Sons. Renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, the company expanded continuously, famously acquiring Creswick & Co. in 1902, and adopting their prestigious crossed arrows trademark. The historic firm closed its doors in 1930 when it was purchased by James Dixon & Sons.
