Item Details

Edouard Schenck floor lamp (attributed) hand forged wrought iron frame with dragons, 1930`s ca, French.

The iron frame on this antique lamp has been gently cleaned respecting & preserving the antique patina. It has been newly rewired and PAT tested by an electrician. It has a new bronze lamp holder with switch, new black silk cable and new black plug. This lamp can work in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity. It is also possible to use this lamp with a dimmer.

This antique floor lamp has many features of early 20th Century French designer Edouard Schenck  (1874-1959), the attributed designer.  For example the quality twisted & curled iron work finished with dragon heads are similar to signed Schenck pieces. This lamp is not signed however.

At nearly 2 meters tall this lamp would make an impressive illumination for a large room. It would suite a range of interiors such as Aesthetic Movement, Art Deco, Traditional, Mid-Century Modern, Country, Industrial, Hollywood Regency or Contemporary.

Structurally this lamp has a hand forged iron frame with tripod base and good weight. The tripod with scrolling decorative work leads to the column. Initially the column is intertwined iron rods and then graduates down to a  single rod. This junction is marked with an iron octagon which also holds the electrical cable. As the rod rises it is decorated with a trio of dragon heads. These have twisted necks and are grouped together with an iron band. The dragons support a decorative iron plate with scalloped edges. Beyond this the iron column continues to the lampholder, where the original antique card cream cover is present. The new BC bayonet metal bronzed lampholder has a switch to turn on & off the light. The removable shade screws to the lampholder by a metal ring & two metal washers.

Takes one standard bayonet light bulb (BC) up to 100 Watts. Presently fitted and photographed with a standard BC Candle clear light bulb of 40 Watts, which is the maximum voltage for the present shade, and is included in the price. Alternatively it is possible to use any other E14 light bulb shapes.

Fitted with a vintage cream silk lampshade of later date (probably from the 1980`s ca).  The shade is tapered and has wide pleat detailing, complete with a crepe trim top and bottom. It is lined in the same colour which enhances the glow of light.

This antique lamp is in very good condition. The iron frame is sound with no damages. The shade is sound with no cuts or damages and minor rubbing in line with age & wear.
