A mid-century oil painting on canvas by French artist André Regagnon (1902–1976), depicting a village viewed from a striking high vantage point. Traditional houses line a road that crosses a bridge over a river, leading to open countryside in the distance. Stone stairs and a garden wall in the foreground introduce the scene with a rich sense of place.


The composition sets the sinuous curves of the stairs and road against the angular geometry of the architecture, while bright sunlight casts shadows that further emphasise the structural rhythm of the scene. Light brushwork lends a softness to the scene, combined with an earthy palette of greens, blues and browns.


A compelling and evocative landscape. Signed lower right, presented in a dark stained wood frame.
