Item Details

This midcentury oil painting on canvas by Chilean artist Camilo Condor (1935–2005), dated 1964, depicts a dreamlike night landscape with two moons and a sun above shapes resembling trees or buildings reflected in the water. Broad brushstrokes form geometric, almost abstract shapes, while the bright, contrasting palette of black, green, yellow, and red is enhanced by glaze-like effects, adding depth and texture. This theatrical and captivating scene is signed and dated on the front and presented in a black tray frame.

Camilo Henriquez Van-den-Borght (1935–2005) was a Chilean painter, muralist, and theatre decorator. After a successful career in Chile, he moved to Paris in 1962, where he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne. He travelled to New York in 1963–64, where this work was likely painted, before exhibiting further in Italy. He settled permanently in Paris in 1966.
