This French provincial oak mirror, c. 1700, is richly carved with scrolling foliage, volutes and strapwork, alternating with stylised shells in the Régence style. The antique mercury plate features attractive foxing and is framed by a twisted rope moulding, providing an architectural edge that contrasts with the more fluid outer ornament.


The bold provincial carving, together with the deep brown oak and its natural veining, is set against the refined movement of the patterning, emphasising the weight and grandeur associated with the late Louis XIV style.


In excellent condition, this rare mirror combines strong craftsmanship with a distinctive, well-preserved patina.
