A late 19th-century French faux bamboo folding campaign chair, of X-frame form with turned faux bamboo legs united by a canvas webbing strap. The original brass hardware retains its clever folding mechanism, allowing the back to fold into the seat and the chair to collapse flat. The faux bamboo finish is particularly compelling, with a warm stained patina to the turned wood. The chair is upholstered in a later French canvas fabric of red and green stripes. A manufacturer’s mark to the hinges.


A good decorative piece with functional charm, characteristic of 19th-century travel furniture.
