A Greek watercolour on paper dated 1952, depicting a cliffside village on the island of Hydra, with sailboats moored at a quay bordered by houses rising up the cliff. The palette of ochres, yellows and reds contrasts with the blue of the sea, reflecting the mineral character of the Greek island landscape. The architecture is rendered with strong geometry, from rectangles to triangles and arches, set against the soft, fluid brushwork characteristic of the watercolour medium. Located Hydra, signed and dated 1952 to the lower right. Presented under a mount and glazed in its orignal stained wood frame.
