This early 20th-century oil painting by French painter, film director, and production designer Henri Mahé (1907-1975) depicts a landscape with a town in the foreground, and a bridge and river leading into the countryside beyond. A vibrant palette of blues, ochres, and greens blends the terracotta roofs with the autumn foliage, while broad patches of colour lend the town’s architecture a striking geometric quality. Of impressive size, this evocative French scene retains its original stained wood frame and label bearing the artist’s name.
