https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/rustiqueThis early 20th century oil on board by French artist Jean Louis Lefort (1875-1954) captures a breezy summer landscape, with fields in the foreground leading towards a cluster of trees and a distant town beneath a sweeping, dramatic sky. A warm palette of browns and greens contrasts with the shifting blues and greys above.
Lefort’s dynamic brushwork conveys the fleeting play of sunlight and the subtle movement of wind across the scene. Rounded cloud forms echo the curves of trees and the domed architecture of the town, drawing the composition together in a single, flowing movement.
Signed lower left, the work is presented glazed and framed in a carved brown gesso frame adorned with floral and foliate motifs. Born in Bordeaux in 1875, Lefort was best known for his lively views of early 20th-century Paris, painted in oil or watercolour. His work is held in the collection of the Musée Carnavalet in Paris. A colourful and quietly expressive landscape, full of light and motion.
