A near-identical pair of 18th-century French faïence vases from Rouen, decorated in classic blue and white, with birds perched on a spray of flowers and foliage, set within a lively ground of bushes, dots and brushed strokes. The second carries a similarly animated floral decoration, without birds. Manganese lines, contrasting with painterly blue brushwork, as well as the pattern-like quality of the decoration make both vases distinctively vibrant.


Of elegant form, each vase presents a round body rising to a slender neck, adorned with acanthus leaf motifs and lambrequin borders. A rare and charming pair of Rouen vases.
