This early 20th-century pastel on paper by British artist Walter Durac Barnett (1876–1961) depicts a coastal landscape with rocks in the foreground, the sea beyond, and cliffs in the distance. Executed on light brown paper, it captures the shifting light and textures of the shoreline through a vibrant palette of blues, greens, yellows, and blacks.


Expressive pastel strokes lend sculptural weight to the rounded rocks and convey the movement of sea mist, while softer forms in the distance create a gentle atmospheric haze. Signed lower right, presented glazed under a blue mount within a gilded wood frame. A lively coastal study, full of colour and natural movement.
