This 19th-century Westerwald salt-glazed stoneware jug is glazed in glossy cobalt blue over a warm grey background and finished with a pewter lid. The body is decorated with stylised floral motifs and geometric shapes in cobalt, framed by delicate carved lines of foliage that accentuate its form. Of generous size, it presents a striking combination of tactile carved textures and vibrant glaze. A fine example of German stoneware with distinctive visual presence.
