Item Details

A mid-century abstract still life in oil on canvas by French artist Jean-Marie Calmettes (1918–2007). Rendered in a restrained palette of soft greys, creams and yellows, the composition combines textured palette-knife work with the geometric forms characteristic of the post-war School of Paris.


Calmettes studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Nouvelle École de Paris. His work is represented in major public collections including the Centre Pompidou and the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris.


A well-balanced and highly decorative example of the artist's work, presented in a simple linen-lined frame.
