Item Details

A set of 4 French painters' colour sample boards, or nuancier, dating from the 1950s and 60s . Each wooden strip records a series of individually mixed paint colours, with handwritten colour references, names and dates to the reverse. Originally used as a working archive for recording and reproducing particular shades, the collection has acquired an extraordinary graphic quality through years of use.
