Item Details

French School, oil on board depicting a seated figure, C1950–60. Painted in a post-Cubist manner, the restrained but saturated palette moves between dark Bordeaux, blue-black and intense cobalt, with a sharp note of vermilion at the lips drawing the eye towards the face.


The figure is constructed through broad, angular passages of colour, with a pleasing tension between the stillness of the pose and the more vigorous handling of the paint.


Presented in a hand-painted, deep bevel-edged wooden tray frame.
