Item Details

'Nob' - acrylic on paper by Trevor Bell (1930–2017), an abstract landscape inspired by Nob Hill in San Francisco, signed and dated '62. Bold, gestural forms in deep black are punctuated by warm terracotta, translating the contours and energy of the urban landscape into Bell’s distinctive language.

Born in Leeds, Bell moved to St Ives in 1955, where he became an important figure within the post-war St Ives school. Celebrated for his expressive use of colour, form and scale, Bell later spent many years in the United States before returning to Cornwall in 1996. His work has been exhibited internationally and is represented in major public collections, including Tate, the British Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Presented glazed, in a hand-stained and waxed bevelled wood frame.
