Striking French relief plaque depicting Marianne, the personification of the French Republic, shown in classical profile with flowing hair and a distinctive rosette detail to the temple. The finely modelled relief has a beautifully aged dark patination against a warm brown ground, creating strong definition and depth. Set within a weathered painted wooden frame, the plaque has a restrained Neoclassical character and makes an appealing decorative statement. The combination of classical imagery and French republican symbolism gives the piece particular decorative and historical interest.
