Item Description
Wonderful, Naive oil on canvas or a worker, possibly a thatcher, pausing for lunch. glass of red wine in hand, presumably from his costrel that is resting on the barrel of wine. In the picture are a chopping block, sheaves & a hatchet. He is captured well, with a wonderful beret and moustache, and rosy pink cheeks from his mornings labours. His impossibly bendy elbows appear to have no bone structure at all, his three fingers on each hand and impossibly off centred feet and legs create a wonderful charm and humour. Original frame, some very minor paint loss and rubbing (from stretcher) France Circa 1880
