Rare Set of Antique French Limonaire Frères Carved Wood Carousel Pig Figures
A unique pair of antique French carved wooden carousel pig figures, attributed to the world renowned Limonaire Frères fairground showman collection. Each pig is hand carved in the typical naïve/folk-art style with sections shaped pieces, glass eyes and with metal rivet numbers to the side. With aged metal riveted repairs as shown and stood on purpose made display metal stands. Worn pole central sections are still visible as are the original layers of paint as these figures would have been repainted over the years they were in use by the showman. These types of figures do not come to market that often so we have been fortunate to uncover these from a private collection in Paris earlier this month.
Dimensions in inches including the stands: H 24” x W 43” x D 11” & H 21” x W 36” x D 9”

Postage costs reflect both weight and size of these items.
In overall very presentable good solid condition, with loss of paint, surface detail and aged repaired sections in the form of metal rivet’s, rusted metal sections. The smaller of the two figures is missing its metal tail and only the large figure has one foot stirrup in place. Damage to the rear of the smaller pig but has been preserved with nails and still keeps its shape. Both items are firm in form and could stand without the metal stands if needed.
