Item Details

A West Persian rug from Malayer close to Hamadan.  This single wefted cotton foundation (warp and weft) rug is simply decorative motifs, and in palate with the soft red, ivory, orange, and purple, the early chemical dye shows fuchsine, which oxidises to onion-skin tones, which is synonymous with the early 1900s.  The deep indigo field sets off the stylised flowers and plant motifs with great drama, while pairs of floating birds can be seen in the fields and corner spandrels. In need of minor restoration the main body of the rug is ready for heavy traffic and the restoration reflected in the current price.
