Item Details

A beautiful Pate de Verre Art Deco mushroom lamp by Daum, Nancy France. The glass shade crafted in an Art Nouveau/Art Deco mushroom design. The shade is supported by three delicate wrought iron arms with moustache shaped claws adjoined by a circular hammered collar.
It features a tapered stem which terminates into a circular convex foot with three raised channels for the flex to sit. The lamp is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. The glass has the most wonderful array of autumnal colours with golden ambers, yellows, browns, greens and reds, perhaps to reflect the changing colours and life cycle of a leaf. The bulb fitted is a clear bulb but you could use an opal, mat or coloured bulb to change the effect through the glass. The shade is inscribed with "Daum Nancy" with the Cross of Lorraine in between. Nancy, a riverfront city in the northeastern French region of Grand Est, is known for its late baroque and art nouveau landmarks, some dating to its days as the former capital of the Duchy of Lorraine.

Daum glass and crystal works was a prestigious manufacturer, based in Nancy, France. The company was founded in 1878 by Jean Daum and was later taken on by his two sons, Auguste and Antonin. The firm were famous for its beautiful glassware which often displayed a variety of decorative techniques, including carving, enamelling and engraving. Daum was particularly well known for its Art Nouveau and Art Deco stylised vases and lamps.
