https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/tinker-toadAn exceptional Danish giltwood pier mirror and matching console dating to the reign of Christian IX, circa 1880.
A fine example of late 19th-century Danish Neoclassical Revival design, with beautifully executed burnished and matt gilding and strong architectural detailing. The impressive crest is centred by a radiating sunburst medallion, flanked by carved drapery swags and spherical finials. The frame features fluted pilasters, finely carved decorative mouldings and particularly fine gilded detail throughout. Of particular interest is the surviving original label for F. H. Senhens, a specialist Danish gilder whose establishment was situated at No. 1 Ny Adelgade, on the corner of Copenhagen's prestigious Kongens Nytorv. His business is independently documented in a contemporary advertisement in Illustreret Tidende, providing an important historical connection to the exceptional gilding and craftsmanship of this piece.
Remarkably complete with its matching lower console, original white marble shelf and mirrored lower section. An elegant and imposing piece, standing just over eight feet tall. Originally intended for the grand interiors of the period, its tall, slender proportions make it equally suited to a contemporary hallway, alcove or drawing room.
An old Danish sale label dated 28 August 1988 also remains attached, adding to its documented history.
Dimensions: H 248 cm × W 70 cm × D 33 cm. Mirror width 64cm.
