The large octagonal tray finely hand-painted with The Family of Darius before Alexander the Great, depicting Alexander and Hephaestion receiving the captive Persian royal family within Darius’s tent following the Battle of Issus, within an elaborate gilt floral border, the raised pierced gallery incorporating twin carrying handles.


Possibly Russian, 19th century; later mounted upon an ebonised stand.
