This is a pair of absolutely glorious antique French angels that date from the second half of the 17th century. Discovered recently in Avignon in the South of France these remarkable angels are hand carved from wood [most probably oak], each one holding a cornucopia that acts as a candle holder. Once they were most certainly gilded and painted in the Baroque style. Through the passage of time this layer of paint has been lost creating in the process a captivating patina which in my opinion only brings forth their true beauty and splendour today. Each angel measures about 41 x 35 x 13 cm or approximately 16 x 14 x 5 inches and they are exactly as I discovered them recently with signs of ageing that gives them a magnificent aura of authenticity and intrigue. They are highly decorative and could be displayed in many innovative ways. For the full condition please refer to the images!
