This is a truly magnificent antique French sunburst that dates from the 19th century. Discovered recently this stunning treasure is created from the hand carved wood in two layers of rays that emanate from the central rosette. The wood is water gilded to perfection with a gorgeous patina and exceptional condition for its age. Through centuries and different cultures, portrayals of the sun have been representing light and knowledge, warmth and positivity. They are also a powerful metaphor for hope, renewal and spiritual awakening, and have also been associated with gods, creation and victory. This sunburst measures about 39 cm or approximately 15.3 inches in diameter and it is in lovely antique condition and exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
