Chinoiserie is a Western decorative style inspired by Chinese themes that can be found in arts, furniture, and architecture, most famously in the 18th century European designs. At its hight of popularity it was often identified by its vibrant colours, elaborate use of gilding, intricate details, and motifs like pagodas, dragons, and exotic landscapes. This is a rare pair of dragons that date from the late 1700's . Once they were decorative panels of a grand interior in France and were created from hand carved wood that is gilded with a deep green background. They are still in their original frames which allows them to be displayed easily. Each one measures about 29 x 42 x 4 cm or approximately 11.4 x 16.5 x 1.5 inches and they are in lovely antique condition with a wonderful patina that in my opinion only enhances their true unique beauty and splendour today. They are exactly as I discovered them recently in Parma, Italy. For the full condition please refer to the images!
