This is an absolutely stunning and extremely rare antique Italian dove known as "Colomba" or the Holy Spirit that is entirely hand carved from a white stone. Once part of an elaborate altar display from the 18th century this magnificent sculptural treasure is outstanding in its artistic quality, fine craftsmanship as well as its meaning. This is a large stone fragment with one wing missing which in my opinion only enhances its true ancient beauty and a remarkable presence today. It measures about 34 x 36 x 12 cm or 13.3 x 14.1 x 4.7 inches and it is exactly as I discovered it recently in Venice. The back contains a stone ring, that allows it to be positioned on a wall, if desired. It also looks extraordinary on a flat surface such as a table or a desk. As it is made of stone, it means that it could be displayed in an interior as well as the exterior, for example a garden, a conservatory or a balcony.
