https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/uk-heritageA set of reclaimed Minton blue and white glazed tiles depicting a panoramic seascape. Comprising of 95 six-inch tiles and displayed on a custom made angled board, the panel shows a beautiful scene of men on a fishing boat with many more on the horizon.
Expertly hand-painted, the tiles display the scene in a deep blue with a crisp white background and desirable crazing.
A striking set to be displayed in a variety of ways, perhaps set into a wall, as floor tiles in the entranceway of a grand home, or above the top of a large period fireplace.
Provenance
These tiles were commissioned by Sir James Knott for his home in Cullercoats. This influential man was a 1st Baronet (1855 - 1934), shipping magnate, and Conservative Party politician.
The scene was removed from the wall in Knott's former home many years ago during renovations to the property. The last photo is of a monochrome photograph showing the tiles in their original setting.
Signed Mintons Ltd to one of the tiles on the lower left hand-side (see sixth picture).
CONDITION REPORT
Good structural condition. The tiles have an even crazing. There are small chips and mortar residue to the perimeters and backs. Some tiles are glued together. Small areas of losses have been made up with filler and painted in. Many tiles have rough cement stuck to their backs. The tiles are all supplied loose.
