Item Description
A Bronze bust of Frederick, Duke of York, brother to King George IV. Considered handsome, known to be affable, the Duke was a military man with a love of the sporting life. He was compelled to leave the army when it was publicly discovered that his mistress was embroiled in the sale of military commissions and promotions. The duke was adored by his brother, King George IV, and was soon restored to the army, as Commander-in-Chief. Depicted here in a classical, ‘Grand Tour’ manner; published by Hamlet at the beginning of 1823.
