A group of four portraits of Champion Racing Pigeons.


Painted in oil on artists' board, inscribed beneath each portrait with a record of the bird, the names of the owners and the pigeon's achievements. Signed and dated by the artist, J. Browne, 1925/1926.


Now presented within simple ebonized frames with gilt sights.  o.s:19.75 in x 15.75 in


So little is known of the folk artist J. Browne that we seem not to even know his given name. He is however, considered a significant figure in Northern British Folk Art, although fair to say, this influence may be limited to his paintings of pigeons.
