Stamped beneath the tail with the Bergmann 'B' in an amphora vase, GESCHUTZ, and the numbers 5468

Franz Xaver Bergmann was the owner of a foundry in his home city of Vienna who produced numerous cold-painted bronzes. He lived and worked in the city between 1861 and 1936 and his output is considered to be the best of its kind.
