A good, Georgian corkscrew with a turned and knurled shank, long grooved worm retaining a sharp point, and between the two an early example of The Rev. Samuel Henshall's button; this being the distinguishing element of the first patent corkscrew.


When the corkscrew was fully inserted, this button with its grips would compress onto the cork and the turning would break any time-honoured bond between the cork and the glass. There is brush at one end of the hardwood handle to clean away cobwebs and debris and a jump ring to suspend it by.
